Workshops – In house

Our workshops are interactive, fast-paced and practical. We use almost no slides and we cut out the “mumbo-jumbo” and talk in plain English. Case studies and discussion involve people in thinking and realising what they have to do on a personal level to improve their own and others’ safety. The interactivity keeps people’s attention all day.

Workshops can be delivered onshore and offshore and can range from one-day events, two-hour sessions for up to 15 participants to short 45-minute sessions for up to 60 people during project start-ups. We can adapt each workshop to “bolt on” to your planned gatherings such as management meetings and conferences. READ THE TESTIMONIALS FOR EACH WORKSHOP.

W1: Behavioural SafetyThis short but powerful workshop (two hours) for up to 15 participants leads them to see that they are ultimately personally responsible for most accidents. The workshop refreshes people on their organisation’s existing safety procedures but the major benefit comes from people discovering that ultimately, it is their own lack of awareness, lack of concentration and their natural human fears, that hurt them.

W2: Risk ToleranceFifteen unsafe scenarios (five of them in the domestic home) are used to generate discussion about the best way to behave to stop the situations developing into full-blown accidents. Some heated debate – with some humour- leads to unmistakeable and valuable lessons that are hard to escape. Ideally, not more than 15 people and the participants can do the “test” online too!

W3: Behavioural Start-up Sessions for ProjectsAs we know, safety must be flagged up as a high priority right at the start of a large project. It isn’t practical to do the full behavioural safety workshop with 40 – 60 people, so we’ve selected the most powerful parts to be inserted into the programme for the day. The sessions are interactive and reinforce messages given in the introductory remarks by senior management.

W4: Revitalise Your Safety Observation SystemLike any other tool, safety observation systems deteriorate over time and don’t work as well as they could. This two-hour workshop with role-plays, gives people the right words and courage to stop others and have a chat. It also gives the strong message that abusive responses to someone stopping you are unacceptable.

W5: Reducing Human Error ShutdownsThis is the “$ million saver” workshop because it aims to stop shutdowns that can cost a fortune. In three-hours onshore or offshore participants are led through case studies of human error shutdowns and learn how to overcome the four main psychological causes of human error. After the workshops a strategic approach is taken to get more experienced people to mentor those less experienced on a particular plant.

W6: Better Tool Box Talks and Risk AssessmentsThe toolbox talk is a vital communication session to ensure everyone understands what has to be done to do a job safely. Each person’s should come away sure of what their specific responsibility is. Unfortunately, many toolbox talks are done poorly. This short (two-hour) workshop clarifies the organisation’s TBT and RA procedures and gets people back into good communication habits.

W7: Safety LeadershipThis workshop assists managers and supervisors to reflect on their own behaviours and what more they can do to protect their people. Often managers and supervisors unknowingly create circumstances where people feel they can’t do what they KNOW they should do. The workshop takes 4 to 8 hours depending on previous experience of leadership and is very interactive.

W8: Risk AccessmentIn one day, people learn very practical ways to formally and thoroughly assess risks and find ways to reduce them. There are no complex models and theory. We concentrate on showing the traps that lead to poor risk assessments and ensure people have the confidence to speak up. We also ensure that your organisation’s risk assessment procedures are fully understood.

W9: Accident InvestigationsThis one-day very practical workshop providing investigators with the knowledge and skills they need to ensure a systematic and thorough analysis of what went wrong, how it went wrong and what to do to prevent it happening again. Time is spent on interviewing skills and the day ends with a mock investigation when participants have to apply their skills.

W10: Office Safety – How Much Risk Will You Take? This fun workshop challenges people with fifteen unsafe situations and for each they have to select from five alternatives, the best way to prevent a full-blown accident happening. Most office-based staff go through a steep learning curve and realise just how much risk they are accepting – and to stop doing so. Participants can do the “test” online too!

W11: Become An Effective Safety Rep.This exciting and practical workshop lasts two days and concentrates on all the interpersonal, communication, negotiation and thinking skills needed to represent the safety concerns of others. The dry legal and safety system content is provided in pre-workshop exercises (the equivalent of two-days work) in a workbook.
